Moral Lesson of the Book:

The central moral lesson in City of Masks is the importance of facing one's past to overcome personal struggles. The book is about the latent traumas and untold secrets that do not only affect an individual but can be so severe that it becomes a problem for the next generation. It emphasizes that a person has to confront the demons of their past to deal with their inner conflicts. It states that healing comes from acceptance and embracing the pain. Another moral of this story is the power of compassion, which teaches us to uncover the emotions that underlie the action through understanding and finally, the resolution for which it is needed.

Reflection and Reviews of the Book:

The City of Masks was a great story with a mystery, horror, thriller, and deep emotional research. One part of the novel that caused me to invest was the family history, that molds us particularly into who we are today. Cree Black's empathy and persistence in uncovering the truth resonated with me, as they reminded me of the importance of digging beneath the surface of the things we don't understand. I also appreciated how the novel immersed me in the haunting beauty of New Orleans, it added a layer of atmosphere that heightened the suspense of the novel.

When I was reading the novel, I enjoyed the descriptions of New Orleans and felt Daniel Hecht described the characters very well. There were also very interesting concepts with the Paranormal plot. City of Masks by Daniel Hecht is no disappointment, it was everything I expected in a novel.  it left a lasting point of view on me, primarily due to its unique blending of paranormal events and psychological depth. The author Daniel Hecht dived into the complexities of human emotions, relationships, and the long-lasting effects of past traumas.

Additionally, The pacing of the novel, with its slow unraveling of secrets, kept me hooked, though at times it felt a bit drawn out. However, the rich character development and the atmospheric descriptions more than compensated for the slower moments. The resolution was both satisfying and thought-provoking, tying together the supernatural with the very real consequences of the family’s past actions. The haunting of the Beauforte family wasn’t just about supernatural phenomena; it was about how unresolved emotions and family secrets can manifest in destructive ways, both physically and psychologically. This theme made me think about how we all carry parts of our family history and how confronting those difficult parts can lead to healing.

Overall, City of Masks is more than just a ghost story. This novel delves into human nature, personal redemption, and the consequences of buried truths. As a fan of mystery with Psychological plots these novels made me satisfied and they captured my thoughts of how I should see life as a mystery and how to face my own demons and confront them to gain peace.
